Powerful and feminine, Marta Jakubowski‘s AW17 collection sends us back to the 80’s, exuding the female powerhouses of the era as Tina Turner’s ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ plays over the speakers. Testing the boundaries of youth alongside a sexual, feminine appeal, this season goes beyond celebrating the brilliance of female sexuality, but rather captures the moment of self-realisation a woman can experience after questioning her own youth.“Never forget the end goal of growing-up is to be thankful for everything on the other side of the rainbow that is female self-actualisation”.

Presented on a rainbow of lemon, magenta, neon orange, violet and red, Jakubowski’s offering this season replicates the same palette in a collection of velvet, tulle and tailored boiler suits alongside the more experimental puffa dress. True to her previous collections, Jakubowski playfully teases with tasteful glimpses of exposed legs, torsos and shoulders, but self-affirmed and unapologetic in doing so.

Tapping back into the concept of Jakubowski’s girl-turned-woman, this is the first season we see her styled in heels (thanks Jimmy Choo). As well as Turner, Chaka Khan and Sade blast overhead, the Jakubowski girl doesn’t need to pretend to be a woman anymore, she is one.
